Car & Van Tyre Maintenance in Bristol

Caring for tyres is an essential part of car ownership. This should involve regular inspections by the owner themselves, as well as occasional checks by mechanics. Some examples of those inspections include looking for uneven tread wear, shallow tread, valve cap damage, troublemakers such as nails and rocks, clear signs of damage, and you should also take a look if you immediately think something is wrong with your wheels.

How long do tyres last?

You should change your tyres every 5-6 years, even if your tyre still looks like it is in working order and if it has a good-looking tread. You may be able to notice if your tyres need changing, simply by visual indications. This could be the tread being worn below the recommended levels, sidewall damage, holes in the tread deeper than 6mm diameter, bead damage and deformation.

How many miles do tyres last?

Standard tyres from reputable manufacturers should last between 20,000 and 40,000 miles in optimal conditions. Driving on rough or unsealed roads, aggressive driving styles, heavy loads and neglecting regular tyre maintenance can significantly reduce these numbers.

Therefore, it is critical for the longevity of your tyres to ensure they are inflated correctly, rotated regularly, and inspected for potential issues consistently. Ultimately, the more care you invest in your tyres, the longer they'll serve you.

How else can I maintain my tyres?

As already stated, you should regularly inspect your tread and there is a unique way to easily do this - using the 20p method, as a benchmark, to see if they are still safe to use. For this, you can also use the tread wear indicators on your tyre or tread depth gauges to help you assess them. Also ensure that you check your tyres once a month and when you go on long journeys.
