UK New Petrol And Diesel Car Ban Delayed To 2035

UK New Petrol And Diesel Car Ban Delayed To 2035

In November 2020, the UK Government announced ambitious plans to ban the sale of brand-new Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles by 2030.

Fast forward to September 2023, and the UK has now committed to extending that deadline back until 2035!

Why is this coming into effect?

By banning the sale of new petrol and diesel cars, the plan is that it will reduce carbon emissions on our roads and help the UK reach a greener future.

The good news is that the ban does not affect second-hand ICE-engine vehicles, so even after 2035, you will be able to purchase and drive a used petrol or diesel vehicle, like one of the many great examples that we have in stock. Search for your next car now!

Encouraging Electric Vehicle Adoption

There will still be encouragement for people looking to purchase brand-new and used cars to look at electric or hybrid options. It also gives more time for the development of better EV infrastructure and more affordable options.

Did you know that here at Carbase we also sell used greener alternatives? If you are looking for a used electric or hybrid car, or van, we have a fantastic range of vehicles ready for you to drive away today.

What was the 2030 ICE ban?

The 2030 ICE ban will end the UK's sales of brand-new petrol and diesel cars. You can still drive your old car and buy traditional fuel-powered cars on the second-hand market, like Carbase as we have a fantastic range of used cars and vans available. There are no plans to completely ban petrol and diesel cars.

The sale of new hybrid cars and vans will also be banned as of 2035 as this deadline has not currently changed. Similar to ICE cars, you will still be able to purchase used hybrid cars, like our great selection of used hybrid cars.

Not a Ban on Existing ICE Vehicles

You might be wondering- can I still drive my car after 2035? And the answer is YES! This extension is still not a ban on existing petrol and diesel cars that use an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE). So, if you currently own an ICE vehicle, you don't need to worry, you won't need to scrap it. You'll still be able to drive your car or van or purchase another used one in the future.

A Step Towards a Greener Future

So there you have it, the ban on NEW Internal Combustion Engine vehicles has been pushed back to 2035 for those that prefer to purchase a brand new vehicle from the factory.

As the ban does not affect second-hand ICE-engine vehicles, you will be able to purchase and drive a used petrol or diesel vehicle after 2035, like one of the many great examples that we have in stock.
