Is the Tiguan heading for the Top of the VW Class?

The VW Tiguan is one of Volkswagen's most popular cars and is a solid choice for families looking to upgrade. There is a huge amount of choice in the SUV size range of vehicle and as such it can be hard to know which one is the right one for you. To give you more of an understanding of the benefits of the VW Tiguan, we've taken a closer look:

Styling and image

The Tiguan is Volkswagen's first off-road car suitable for either smooth tarmac or rocky terrain. It's neatly styled to compete with its SUV rivals from BMW, Honda and Ford. With a typical VW look, the cars come in a variety of colours including Mountain Grey and Pure White. The VW Tiguan had a small facelift in 2011 making some minor aesthetic changes and here at Carbase you'll typically find used cars from both pre-2011 and post-2011 in stock.

Interior and practicality

Inside the Tiguan you'll find a classic clean-cut VW style interior which is well-built, comfortable and spacious. In the petrol version you'll find the largest boot amongst the SUV class, although its counterpart in the diesel version is slightly smaller due to a larger fuel tank. Either model features plentiful space, with a generous amount of room for passengers both in the front and rear seats. In addition, the rear seats can be moved and tilted allowing passengers more comfort on longer journeys.

Typical added extras in our used VW Tiguans include rain sensor windscreen wipers, sat nav, Bluetooth connectivity and a DAB digital radio. Plus, good news if you regularly tow a trailer or caravan - the factory-fitted integral hitch on the VW Tiguan works brilliantly.

Performance and economy

The VW Tiguan comes in either four-wheel drive or front-wheel drive options and as either a petrol or diesel. Nine out of ten new purchases of the VW Tiguan are for the diesel model so you are likely to find this more abundantly in our range of used cars. Looking at performance and it's clear to see why the diesel is so popular - achieving around 53mpg, so you'll not be spending too much if you are clocking up the miles. All VW Tiguan's come with a six-speed gearbox and those fitted with BlueMotion technology release lower fuel emissions.

Ride and handling

Suited to both on and off-road terrains, the VW Tiguan handles well on both surfaces, but feels slightly more comfortable on-road than off. If you need reliable off-road performance, the Escape version comes with a higher front bumper and hill descent control for maximum traction over challenging terrain.

With a responsive electronic power steering system and a good, but flexible, suspension you'll enjoy a comfortable ride in this car. There's good all-round visibility so parking in urban areas is easy and is helped by front and rear radar-type parking sensors.

Here at Carbase we have an extensive range of used VW Tiguan's for sale. Prices range from £5700 (at time of review) and finance packages are available.
