Styling and image

As we've already stated BMW's have buckets full of style, and the BMW 4 Series is a great example of that. The BMW 4 Series is a two-door coupe available in a range of classic colours including black, white, red and silver. There are five different trims available - Sport, MSport, SE, Modern and Luxury all of which offer a variety of features including LED headlights, front and rear parking sensors and sat nav.  

Interior and practicality

This is a driver's car, and it's clear from the interior layout that it's been designed with the driver in mind. The entire central console is slightly angled towards the driver allowing for easy access, and the controls are thoughtfully laid out. The car also comes complete the innovative iDrive control system which allows you to control things like the sat nav by tracing your finger over a touchpad control system to draw the letters or numbers you want. For a two door vehicle there is a surprising amount of space in the rear seats, and generous headroom space means it's suitable for adults as well as children. There's also a huge amount of boot space with 445 litres available when the rear seats are up - bigger than many of its rivals including the Mercedes C-Class Coupe and on a par with the Audi A5.  

Performance and economy

You'll be spoilt for choice when choosing a used BMW 4 Series, with a huge selection of engine sizes to pick from. Available in either petrol or diesel you can get a 2.0 litre engine either as a 420i, 420i xDrive, 420d, 420d xDrive, 425d, 428i, 430d, 430d xDrive, 435i, 435d xDrive and M4. The xDrive range gives you all-wheel drive. The most popular is the 420d which is the most economical providing 65.7mpg compared to the 420i petrol equivalent which gives you 48.7mpg. You'll also find BMW 4 series vehicles with either a manual or automatic gearbox, and it's the automatic which are more fuel efficient.

Ride and handling

The BMW 4 Series heralded a rework of the mechanics from the 3 Series and also saw a re-design to the car resulting a lower centre of gravity. That all serves to make this a quick car which is really responsive and easy to handle. The top of the range M4 is one of the quickest cars you can find in the 4 Series and will do 0-60mph in just 3.9 seconds thanks to its carbon fibre roof, boot lid and driveshaft. It's a comfortable car to drive and is quiet no matter whether in the city or on the motorway. It also scored the full five stars on the NCAP Euro safety tests.
