Alfa Romeo Giulietta - A Thing of Beauty

It's been said before that you can't be a true petrol head until you've owned an Alfa, and with the Alfa Romeo Giulietta the Italian car giant are certainly giving those who love great cars something to be excited about. While the name Giulietta is a flashback to Alfa's past, this is a modern car, with a sleek, stylish design. With curves in all the right places, this is a car which is even making Audi and BMW devotees think twice about the next used car they purchase. To find out more, we've reviewed it to help you in making your choice:

Styling and image

Immediately noticeable as a member of the Alfa family thanks to the trademark upside-down triangular grille, this car has heaps of style. As well as having a beautiful silhouette, the details also grab the attention with thoughtful additions like hidden rear-door handles which complete the sleek finish. Colours are typically either the extremes of light and dark, with the black, dark blue or Alfa red versions really showcasing the beauty of this vehicle.

Interior and practicality

Giulietta's with the traditional Alfa red leather interior gives these cars a sporty, dynamic feel. Internal space does feel a little limited with not as much room as you would expect in the rear and an abundance of plastic on display. You'll find modern technology inside, along with air conditioning, Bluetooth, all-round electric windows and DAB radio as standard. Later versions (from 2016) also feature the Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system, allowing for comprehensive integration of your smartphone.

What's more, you'll have no need to pack light with the Giulietta as it comes with a generous 350 litre boot in the rear to fit in whatever you need from a baby's buggy to your golf clubs or camping gear for a weekend away.

Performance and economy

Recommending services at a huge 18,000 mile intervals is testament to the faith that Alfa have in the Giulietta's build quality. While some people might steer clear of Alfa due to legacy reliability issues, the Giulietta will change your mind. And no matter what size engine you opt for, this is a car which offers a powerful ride - for example you'll get up to 235bhp from the 1750cc Cloverleaf version.

The car has a stop/start button function and has been designed to be as efficient as possible. The 1.6-litre version, which produces the lowest CO2 emissions, returns 64.2mpg on average.

Ride and handling

The Alfa Romeo Giulietta is at home anywhere you take it - comfortable zipping around the city or opened up on the motorway for longer journeys. What's more, the Giulietta features Alfa's trademark DNA switch, which allows you to change the steering weight and throttle response according to the area you are travelling in - Dynamic, Natural and All-weather.

This is a car which clearly delivers on style and will be a real statement for those who drive it. But most importantly, it's not just great to look at, but great to drive as well.
